The Singapore Zoo is located on the shores of the Upper Seletar Reservoir, in the midst of the lush Mandei rainforest. The zoo was opened on June 23, 1973, covers an area of 26 hectares, which is home to more than 2800 animals, representing 315 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Zoo guests can observe animals in their natural habitat, most of the animals and birds live in spacious open-air cages and are separated from visitors only by deep moats or glass barriers. The zoo is equipped with observation platforms, high platforms for observing giraffes, underwater galleries that allow you to see the world of aquatic animals, dwarf hippos or crocodiles. Predators (lions, tigers, cheetahs) are placed in glazed enclosures, inside of which real natural landscapes of wildlife are recreated. The zoo has several natural areas. In the African savannah, lions, giraffes, an African wild dog, white rhinos and zebras feel at home. Lemurs, sloths, armadillos, anteaters, bats, iguanas and many insects live in the rainforest zone. In the zone of arid steppes of Australia, you can find wallaby kangaroos, bearded dragons, cassowary, koalas, black-headed lizards and Australian pythons. Hamadrilles, Nubian goats and striped mongooses live in the Great Rift Valley zone of Ethiopia. An Amharic village was recreated here - a traditional settlement of the indigenous tribes of Ethiopia with adobe huts and wooden figures of deceased heroes standing guard at the entrance to the village. On the island of Gibbons live a howler monkey, gibbons, ginger warrior (a mammal from the genus of the lemur vari), flamingos. And in the territory of the Kingdom of primates, 39 species of monkeys live. Among the lush tropical vegetation you can see brown capuchin, monkey hussar, macaques, Vietnamese langer. In the deep ditches filled with muddy water, there lives a "living fossil" - the South American carnivorous fish Arapaima, the largest freshwater fish in the world. Giant turtles live in the Reptile Garden, the Komodo dragon (the largest lizard in the world), the rhino iguana, the net python, rattlesnakes and anacondas. An ice cave with a waterfall and a large pool filled with huge blocks of ice is the kingdom of a polar polar bear. And also Asian elephants, hippos, brown bears, pandas, tigers, crocodiles, porcupines, rodents - all the inhabitants of the Singapore Zoo are simply impossible to list. The zoo hosts numerous animal shows, sightseeing tram excursions, fascinating tours, and educational programs for children and adults are developed. Visitors to the zoo can take part in feeding their pets, take a picture with their pet as a keepsake, celebrate a birthday and even have breakfast in a restaurant with a family of orangutans. More than one and a half million people visit the Singapore Zoo annually.
