Olive Grove Olivar (Park Olivar)
Peru, Lima

Olive Grove Olivar (Park Olivar) - one of the most beautiful and largest parks in the capital of Peru, the city of Lima, is located in the San Isidro district. The park area of 23 hectares in colonial times was part of the estate of Count San Isidro. The history of the emergence of the olive grove dates back to 1560, when Antonio de Rivera, the mayor of Lima, brought seedlings of olive trees to Spain from Spain. Only three trees moved a long way across the Atlantic, but they took root and gave rise to a huge olive grove, so already in 1730 the park consisted of about 2000 trees, by 1828 their number increased to 2828. Olivar Park was declared the National Monument of Peru in 1959, It is one of the most favorite vacation spots for citizens and guests of the capital. Century-old mighty trees, in the crown of which more than 30 species of birds nest, are not only an adornment of the city, but also a kind of “light” capital that provides oxygen to the metropolis and helps purify the air in the densely populated area. The park has many cozy recreation areas, arbors, fountains, benches and sculptures are installed. In the center of the Olivar grove is a small lake with two man-made waterfalls and an artificial island. A wooden bridge leads to the island, there are benches around the pond and on the island, it's nice to sit in silence and enjoy the coolness. Elderly people like to walk along well-groomed alleys, teenagers ride bicycles or roller skates, families with young children and couples in love walk. In the evening, the park includes a backlit fountain, near which it is always crowded - people communicate, get acquainted and relax from the bustle of the city. Around the park are the city hall, city library, auditorium, art studio and art gallery.
