The Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple Complex is located in India, in New Delhi, on the banks of the Yamuna River. The construction of the temple was conducted from 2000 to 2005, the official opening took place on November 6, 2005, immediately after which Swaminarayan Akshardham was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest Hindu temple in the world. The construction of the Abode of God involved about 11,000 builders and artisans from around the world, the project cost about half a billion US dollars, all the money was collected through voluntary donations. Swaminarayan Akshardham is located on an area of more than 10 hectares, in addition to the main temple dedicated to Bhagavan Swaminarayan (the founder of the religious movement Swaminarayan in Hinduism), the complex includes a cultural center with exhibition halls, a large park with gardens, artificial lakes, canals and a musical fountain. The "heart" of the complex is the main temple, Mandir Akshardham, whose height is 42 meters, width - 94 meters, length - 106 meters. The building is decorated with nine domes, 234 carved columns and 20,000 figures (murtis) depicting scenes from Indian mythology. The temple was finished manually, the facade was made of pink sandstone, and Carrara white marble was used in the interior decoration. The interior of the temple is conditionally divided into 9 thematic zones dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan and his followers. Their statues are installed in the halls, the largest, 3.5 meters high, is a statue of Swaminarayan. In three exhibition halls, visitors have the opportunity to get acquainted with the thousand-year-old history and traditions of India, the postulates of the Hindu religion, watch a film about the seven-year pilgrimage of Swaminarayan. The expositions are decorated using the most modern technologies, lighting and sound special effects. Every day, with the onset of darkness, visitors to Akshardham can see a grandiose laser show, the highlight of which is the light and music fountain. It consists of eight lotus flowers located inside a huge bowl, the size of which is 91x91 meters. Around the fountain is built an amphitheater with seats for spectators. Visitors can also stroll through the large park, on the territory of which there are places for recreation, there are cafes and souvenir shops.
