Chobe National Park
Botswana, Kasane

Chobe National Park, the first of Botswana's National Parks, is located in the north-east of the country. Its northern border runs along the Chobe River, in the southwest the park is adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta, and in the east it borders on Zimbabwe. In 1960, in order to preserve the unique natural diversity of this area, the territory was declared protected, and in 1967, Chobe National Park was established on an area of 11,700 square kilometers. The park is divided into 4 zones and, accordingly, into 4 ecosystems. Serondela is a zone located in the north-east of the park, in the Chobe River Valley, where there are dense mahogany forests and lush floodplain plains. Savuti swamps are located in the western part of the park. Marshes feed on the waters of the Savuti Canal, which dries up during the dry season, along the shores of which there is a “dead” forest; savannas and meadows are characteristic of the marshland. In the north-west there are Lignati swamps, this territory is covered by river forests, light forests and lagoons. Between Savuti and Lignati are arid areas with poor vegetation. Chobe Park has the largest population of African elephants in the world (about 120,000 individuals); hippos, baboons, giraffes, zebras, impala, wildebeest, swamp, horse antelope, kudu, African buffalo, common water goat, warthog live on its territory. Among the representatives of predators are lions, leopards, spotted hyena, large-eared fox, and, according to some, a cheetah. The avifauna of the park has about 450 species of birds - storks, sacred ibis, martial eagle, Nile goose, cormorants, darter, spur goose, screaming eagle and many others. Huge biodiversity and beautiful nature attract thousands of tourists from all over the world to Chobe National Park. Fascinating routes have been developed for visitors - jeep safaris, boat cruises, a trip to Victoria Falls, located 100 km from the park, photo tours, fishing. Programs are designed both for one day and for a long stay. The park is equipped with campsites, campsites, lodges, there is a comfortable Chobe Game Lodge hotel, in which many celebrities stayed, including Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
