Avachinsky volcano is an active volcano in Kamchatka, in the southern part of the Eastern Range, north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in the interfluve of the Avacha and Nalycheva rivers. Belongs to the Somma-Vesuvius type volcanoes.<br />Height 2741 m, cone-shaped top. The cone is composed of basaltic and andesitic lavas, tuffs and slag. The diameter of the crater is 400 m, there are numerous fumaroles. As a result of the eruption that occurred in 1991, a massive lava plug formed in the volcano's crater. In the summit part of the volcano (together with the Kozelsky volcano) there are 10 glaciers on an area of 10.2 km².<br />The lower slopes of the volcano are covered with forests of dwarf cedar and stone birch, in the upper part there are glaciers and snowfields.<br />At the foot The volcano is home to the volcanological station of the Institute of Volcanology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
