Loro Park (Parrot Park) is located on the north coast of Tenerife, 3 km from the center of Puerto de la Cruz. The park was founded in 1972 by the German businessman Wolfgang Kisling. Initially, the park occupied an area of 1.3 hectares and was positioned as Parrot Park. Over time, the territory of Loro Park has increased significantly and now stands at 13.5 hectares, the park itself has become one of the largest and most visited theme parks in the Canary Islands, combining a zoo, a botanical garden, a dolphinarium and an aquarium. The main entrance to Loro Park is designed as a Thai village - a complex of six wooden buildings with roofs decorated with gold. This is one of the largest Thai-style buildings located outside of Thailand. The territory of the park was planted with exotic plants, artificial ponds and waterfalls were created. The park has a real jungle plot, palm grove, dragon tree alley and Orchid Garden. The number of parrots, which at the time the park was founded was only 150, has grown to 4,000 birds, representing 350 species. In addition, flamingos, emus, pelicans and crowned cranes live in the park. Among the inhabitants of the park are Bengal tigers, including the rare white tiger, cheetahs, chimpanzees, gorillas, monkeys, marmazets, meerkats, otters, crocodiles, turtles. One of the main attractions of Loro Park is a dolphinarium with several swimming pools, which host spectacular shows featuring dolphins, sea lions and killer whales. In the Aquarium of the park, the inhabitants of the deep sea are represented - tropical fish, piranha, 40 species of coral and sponges. The glass tunnel is very popular, in which sharks swim right above your head. Pavilion "Planet Penguins" invites you to look at the inhabitants of Antarctica. For 180 penguins, conditions are created that are as close as possible to natural ones - a special cannon produces 12 tons of snow daily, an ice island is no different from the present, in a spacious pool with cold water, penguins can swim and dive in plenty. The park has a children's playground, attractions, a cinema, restaurants, cafes, shops, fascinating tours and shows are held.
