Coiba National Park is located on the Pacific coast of Panama in the Gulf of Chiriqui, in the western region of the province of Veraguas. The park covers an area of about 660 acres of land and water. Due to the impressive size and number of islands, this National Park is one of Panama's most spectacular parks. Coiba is the largest island of the park, as well as one of the largest islands in the country. In addition to it, there are 38 other smaller islands in the park. Also, Koiba National Park includes the huge adjacent water areas of the Pacific Chiriki Gulf, which are more than 240 square meters. km of clean coastline and sandy beaches. The national park is located on volcanic islands, which are famous for their unique and breathtaking wildlife. The calm waters around the islands are considered one of the best places for diving, since the second largest coral reef in the eastern Pacific Ocean is located here. Jagged volcanic peaks that rise up to 30-60 meters abound in a variety of life forms. Corals are a haven for brightly colored snails, shrimps, small fish and crabs hunting for them, starfish and larger predators. Coiba National Park is an excellent natural laboratory for scientific research. 36 species of mammals, 147 species of birds, 39 species of reptiles and amphibians are registered in the National Park. Here live animals that are not found anywhere else in the world. For example, the golden hare and the Colombian howler. Here you can also find some species of animals that have disappeared from other areas of Panama, such as the Guiana harpy and the scarlet macaw. The national park is rich in lush vegetation. In the reserve you can see about 1450 species of various plants. Coiba National Park is known for its rich underwater world. 69 species of fish live here, 12 - echinoderms, 45 - mollusks, 13 - crustaceans. Also found here are killer whales, bottlenose dolphins, dolphin whales, and humpback whales. Black sperm whales and small dwarf sperm whales are found in the waters of the park. The best time to visit the National Park is from mid-December to mid-April, that is, during the dry season. Coiba National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
