Construction of the cathedral began on December 27, 1892, the cathedral was planned in the Byzantine-Roman style, but in 1911 the style was changed to new Gothic after the construction of the main dome was completed in 1909. Construction of the cathedral continued until 1941, after which it was stopped and continued in 1979 until 1999. Since then, due to lack of funding, construction work has not been carried out.
The area of ​​the cathedral is 11,240 m², volume 476,350 m³, length 183.2 m. Thus, the cathedral is the largest Anglican cathedral in the world.
