Seoraksan National Park is considered one of the most beautiful natural parks in South Korea. It is located in the north-east of the country, in the province of Gangwon-do, near the resort town of Sokcho. Seoraksan National Park covers an area of 398 square kilometers, founded in 1970, and in 1982 declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The Seoraksan Mountains are the third highest in South Korea (the Dachonbon peak is 1708 meters above sea level) and the most picturesque are peaked mountain peaks, for which clouds, dense coniferous forests, streams with crystal clear water, waterfalls, lakes and valleys. 1400 species of plants grow in the park - dwarf pine and yew, cedar and juniper, Manchurian spruce, hawthorn, thuja, oak and many others. Seoraksan is famous for a huge variety of flowering plants, including edelweiss, azalea, forsythia, saussure and a rare endemic species - a diamond bell. The park is home to 2,000 species of animals, among which it is worth mentioning endemic species that are on the verge of extinction - the Korean goral (a variety of mountain goat) and musk deer (musk deer). In the territory of the National Park is a Buddhist temple Sinheungsa, built in the VII century. Near the temple is a statue of the Great Buddha, a 19-meter high sculpture made of gilded bronze and weighs 108 tons. On Tolsan Mountain, there are the ruins of the ancient fortress Kwongymson, built in the X century. The park is open to visitors at any time of the year, but the largest influx of tourists is observed in autumn and spring, at these times of the year the park is most beautiful. Fascinating walking routes of varying difficulty and duration (from several hours to 2-3 days) have been developed for tourists, some sections of mountain trails have a high degree of danger. Near the entrance to the park in the area of Xinghyns there is a cable car lift that takes you to the Gwongymson peak (1200 meters above sea level). From its top a magnificent panoramic view opens, the radius of view from this point is 10 km. Campers are equipped for visitors in the park, there are snack bars, small coffee houses and points selling water, ice cream and drinks.
