Ruaha National Park
Tanzania,

Ruaha National Park is located in the center of Tanzania, 130 kilometers from Iringa. In 1910, the Saba Game Reserve was created in the valley of the Great Ruaha River by the colonial authorities in order to preserve the unique ecosystem and diversity of wildlife species. In 1964, protected lands were declared Ruach National Park. Due to the addition of neighboring reserves, the park has grown significantly and currently stands at 20,226 square kilometers, making Ruaha Park the largest natural park in Tanzania and East Africa. The main asset of the park is its pristine, untouched wildlife. The landscape of the park is diverse - endless savannas, dry tropical forests, hills and swamps. The park includes the channels of the Great Ruaha River, the Rufiji, Mdonya and Mwaguzi rivers, which in the dry period are the only source of water for animals and plants. There are 1,650 plant species registered in Ruaha Park, many of which are endemic. Among the more than 80 species of mammals living in the park, you can find elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, zebras, kudu, impala, Grant's gazelle, wild African dog, jackal, eared fox and many other animals considered rare or endangered species. In the park, there are 571 species of birds, including kingfishers, rhinoceros, nectaries, white herons, zuikas. In March-April and October-November, there is an accumulation of migratory birds migrating from Europe, Asia, Australia and Madagascar and making a stop in the wetlands of the park. There are several historical and cultural monuments in Ruaha. Of interest are the ancient trade routes along which Arab caravans traveled, battlefields of the Hehe tribe with the German conquerors, as well as the remains of ritual and religious objects of the natives. Visitors to the Ruaha National Park can go on foot safaris (only accompanied by an armed guide) and get a unique experience, moving in dense thickets and inaccessible places. In order not to disturb animals, the movement of off-road vehicles in the park is prohibited. There are Jongomero, Kigelia, Mwagusi safari, Old Mdonya River, Kwihala, Flycatcher and Ruaha River Lodge lodges in the park.
