- Angle Windmills Hill
Angla Windmills Hill is an open-air museum located in Estonia, in the northern part of Saaremaa, in the village of Angla. The windmill is one of the official symbols of the island of Saaremaa, their image can be found on postcards, stamps and on the pages of tourist guides. On a hill in Angla (the only mill hill on the island that has retained its pristine appearance) there are five windmills, four of which are typical Saaremaa mills with a turning pole, the fifth is a Dutch-type octagonal wooden mill with a rotating oval roof. All of them date from the end of the XIX - beginning of the XX century. The mills were built on a hill open to all winds, in 1925 there were nine of them and they served thirteen farms located in the vicinity of the village of Angla. The last time the mills were restored in 2008 - 2010, now all windmills are open for visiting, and in one of the mills you can observe the work of the miller. In 2011, the Angla Cultural Heritage Center was opened on a mill hill, where visitors have the opportunity, under the guidance of experienced craftsmen, to master traditional crafts, work in clay and felt workshops, become a blacksmith or a carpenter for a while, try their hand at making wool and bake homemade bread according to an old recipe. The Center employees hold master classes, organize holidays for adults and children, performances by folklore groups, fairs and exhibitions of local artisans' products. A souvenir shop and tavern are located on a hill with Angla windmills, visitors can enjoy the famous English rye bread with herbal butter and unfiltered homemade beer, which includes juniper. Anglais windmill hill is one of Saaremaa's most famous attractions and is visited by all tourists arriving on the island.
