Ta Prom Temple is a monumental temple. It is located in the temple complex of Angkor, in the city of Siem Reap, in the wild jungle. The temple is in dilapidated condition. Its towers, terraces and statues have been braided by trees for centuries, which over time mercilessly destroyed walls. For hundreds of years, the jungle has changed the architecture of the temple. Creepers encircle the walls of the temple and form a kind of dome on top. The ruins of the religious building are known for shooting some scenes of the famous Hollywood adventure film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” with starring Angelina Jolie. The Ta Prohm temple was built in 1186, in the traditional Khmer Bayon style, in honor of the mother of Emperor Jayavarman VII, which the emperor identified with Prajnaparamita - the mother of all deities and the goddess of "perfect Wisdom". There was simultaneously a university and a Buddhist monastery, in the territory of which the monks opened 102 hospitals that served local residents. In the 15th century, after the fall of the Khmer Empire, people left the temple complex and was gradually swallowed by the jungle. From the very beginning, the complex occupied an area of 730 square meters. km, it was surrounded by a triangular wall, which almost did not survive to this day. The vast territory of the complex was served by about 12 thousand people. These were monks, servants, dancers. In the subordination of the temple were 3 thousand villages located nearby. Many jewels were found on the temple site: diamonds, gold, pearls, silk bedspreads, gold dishes, umbrellas encrusted with precious stones. The shrine was discovered quite by accident only in the 20th century and tried to reconstruct it, but in vain. Century-old trees are so rooted in ancient stones that when trying to uproot, the remains of buildings were destroyed. It was decided to leave the temple in the form in which it was found. Scientists and archaeologists have decided not to restore the original appearance of the Ta Prohm temple, so that tourists can imagine what the temple looked like before the advent of civilization. In 1992, the temple complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and it was decided to begin restoration work. But the restoration began only in 2009, when centuries-old trees were cut down here so that religious buildings were not destroyed. It is estimated that a full restoration can take up to 10 years. The ruins of a shrine with mighty trees rooted in them are Cambodia's most visited attraction. Ta Prom Temple is the most famous and fascinating temple, which is part of the Angkor temple complex.
