The Matisse Art Gallery is located in Morocco, in the city of Marrakech. The gallery was opened in 1999, named after the French artist Henri Matisse, and the director of the gallery is Yousef Falaki. The gallery occupies two floors, on which paintings and sculptures by contemporary Moroccan artists are presented. On the ground floor there is a cozy reading room with a collection of books and magazines about art. The gallery hosts exhibitions of both artists who have already gained fame and young artists who are just starting their way in art. Exhibitions are accompanied by the publication of catalogs, booklets, promotional materials and presentations. Among the artists whose works were presented in the gallery are Hassan Hajjaj, Farid Belkakhia, Hassan El Glaui, Nureddin Chatyr, Moulay Ahmed Drissi and others. Many works exhibited in the Matisse Gallery have found their place in private and museum collections. Matisse Gallery takes part in many international exhibitions, presents the work of representatives of the Moroccan school of painting in many countries of the world. The New York Times spoke of the Matisse Art Gallery as "one of the few true galleries in Marrakech."
