Majete Nature Reserve has been one of Malawi's most popular wildlife parks since 1955. The reserve is located in the southwestern part of Malawi, in the Shire Valley, near the village of Chikwawa. Its area is 700 sq. Km. By the end of the 1990s, the position of the reserve was critical. Most animal species were on the verge of extinction. Therefore, in 2003, the organization of the Majete African Parks, together with the Government of Malawi and local communities, began a comprehensive rehabilitation of the reserve. By the summer of 2012, more than 2,000 animals and birds from 13 different species settled here again, including an elephant, a black rhino, a leopard, a buffalo, a sable, zebras, a lion and others. The reserve consists of mature forests of miombo and granite hills, with picturesque river valleys and coastal young lush forests. A complete infrastructure for all travelers has been created here. The reserve offers various walking tours, safaris, rental of jeeps and boats for river cruises, and the services of experienced guides. You can stop at the confluence of two rivers in a secluded chalet with first-class amenities. Today, the reserve has about 4,000 animals, including hippos and crocodiles in the Shire River.
