Floating islands
Turkey, Bingol Province

Floating islands are one of Turkey's natural wonders. They are located in the Solhan district, in the east of Bingol province. The floating islands of Lake Aksakal Göl are an amazing sight that tourists tend to visit at different times of the year. Visitors can watch an amazing spectacle from afar. If earlier guests of the attraction could go to one of the islands, walk along them with their children, today the situation has changed. The Turkish government decided to take the islands under protection in order to preserve this unique natural phenomenon for posterity. For the protection of the natural object, a wire fence is provided. Around the floating islands and lake Aksakal Göl, viewing platforms are organized from which visitors get the opportunity to get acquainted with a real miracle of nature. Unusual "floating islands" are distinguished by the fact that they can move along the surface of the lake. It is especially picturesque on the lake in the winter season, when the islands covered with snow float on the water. But tourists come here at any time of the year. The provincial administration is taking all measures to preserve the natural phenomenon. After all, experts note that the islands are quite badly damaged due to crowded constant visits. Ecologists report frightening predictions that the islands in the Solkhan region may disappear. But the installed fences and viewing platforms will allow the islands to recover and at the same time prevent the outflow of tourists from the region. Especially for the preservation of the islands, the project "Floating Islands, the Key to Tourism" was developed and implemented. The Governor of Solkhana personally oversees the implementation of the project.
