Babinovskaya Road Exhibition
Russia, Verhoture gorod

The Babinovskaya Road Exhibition in Verkhoturye is dedicated to the historic Babinovskaya Road, a significant transport artery of the 16th to 18th centuries. This route was the first officially established land road connecting European Russia with Siberia, playing a crucial role in the colonization and economic development of the Siberian territories. It was named after Artemy Babinov, a peasant from the village of Verkh-Usolka, who pioneered the path. The road stretched from Solikamsk to Verkhoturye, serving as the main state route for transporting goods, officials, and settlers for over two centuries before being superseded by more southern routes. The exhibition explores the road's history, its economic and strategic importance for the Russian state, and the life of the people who traveled and lived along it. Verkhoturye itself, one of the oldest towns in the Urals, was a key administrative and customs point on this road, further cementing the exhibition's relevance to the local historical context.
