Aberdeen Harbor is located on the south coast of Hong Kong Island. Aberdeen city with a population of 60 thousand people is located on the shore of the bay. The name Aberdeen in 1845 was given to the city in honor of British Foreign Minister Lord Aberdeen. Previously, this place was a huge fishing village on the water, whose inhabitants actually lived in boats, using them as dwellings. Nowadays, like 100 years ago, hereditary fishermen and their families live in special boats - sampans and junks, providing themselves with livelihoods by fishing. In total, about 5 thousand people live in this area. And on the shore, life boils and skyscrapers glow with neon. Residents of Hong Kong are engaged in fishing and shrimp only during the day due to intense competition and the crisis of the fishing industry. They sell catch at markets, wholesalers, or restaurant owners. Tourism is very developed in this area, small and large ships go around the bay. Of these, the two largest, these are the ship-restaurants Jumbo and Tai Bak. Jumbo restaurant was used during the filming of many Asian and Hollywood films. The ship has the appearance of an ancient Chinese palace with pagodas and luxurious golden dragons. In the northern part of Aberdeen Harbor, Aberdeen Country Park is located, in the territory of which there are lower and upper Aberdeen reservoirs with recreation areas for barbecue and picnics. Also along the promenade are a seaside park, Wonchukhan Gardens, Ocean Park Garden, Shekpaiwan Highway and Shekpaiwan Playgrounds. Nearby are Aberdeen Chinese Cemetery, St. Peter's Catholic Church, Taishin Temple, Thinhau Temple, Baptist Church. In 1982, a 1.9 km car tunnel was opened that connects the southern and northern coasts of Hong Kong Island. In 1983, an automobile bridge was built linking Aberdeen with the island of Appleachau. Currently, yachts and pleasure boats of the city's inhabitants are moored in the harbor. You can rent a boat in the bay and visit the nearby islands.
