Preah Khan Temple was built in 1191 on the site of Jayavarman VII's victory over the Cham invaders.
In its heyday, it was the center of a significant organization with many officials and employees residing here. The original plan of the temple was simple: successive rectangular galleries surrounded a central Buddhist sanctuary. However, Hindu satellite temples and numerous subsequent additions greatly complicated this plan.
Preah Khan has not yet been restored to a large extent. Lost in the twilight jungle, with trees growing through the ruins, the temple seems especially attractive to dreamers, lovers and artists.
