Bangmealea is one of the Angkor temples that were discovered and opened to the public relatively recently. Located 77 kilometers east of Siem Reap, Bangmealea Temple is perhaps the best place to feel like Lara Croft or Indiana Jones. Here you can climb through the ruins, discover nooks and crannies within the ruins, and explore this mysterious temple overrun by the jungle to your heart's content. It is without a doubt the most romantic place in the Siem Reap area.
Although little is known about the history of Bangmealea, it is attracting more and more visitors. The usual Sanskrit inscriptions have not been found in the temple, but it is believed that it was built in the first half of the 12th century by King Suryavarman II.
