Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park
Madagascar, Morondava

Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Melaky Region of western Madagascar. The park is renowned for its unique karst landscape, characterized by a spectacular formation of sharp limestone needles known as "tsingy," which translates to "where one cannot walk barefoot." This extensive plateau was formed through the erosion of Jurassic limestone, creating a complex system of caves, canyons, and gorges. The park protects a vast expanse of dry deciduous forest and serves as a critical habitat for a high number of endemic and endangered species. Its biodiversity includes various lemur species, such as Decken's sifaka and the red-fronted brown lemur, alongside numerous reptiles, birds, and invertebrates. The site is also recognized for its pristine mangrove ecosystems along the western boundary. Due to its challenging terrain and significant ecological value, access to certain areas of the park is restricted and requires guided tours.
