Museum of Natural History
Mauritius, Port Louis city

The Museum of Natural History was founded in 1831. The most interesting exhibit is the Dodo, the first inhabitant of the island and its current symbol. This bird with a hooked nose and atrophied wings, an atypical representative of pigeons, disappeared in the 17th century. The museum presents an interesting collection of stuffed birds, as well as fish, butterflies, amphibians and reptiles. The museum also has a large collection of sea shells containing many rare specimens.
