Sandy Mongol Els Array
Mongolia, Govi-Altai

Sandy Massive Mongol Els is located in the western part of Mongolia, in the provinces of Gov-Altai and Zavkhan. The sands of the Mongol Els cover a large territory; they originate from the eastern shore of the salty lake Durgen-Nuur and stretch for almost 300 kilometers from the southeast to northwest along the channel of the Zavkhan River. The area of one of the largest sand massifs in Mongolia is 2724 square kilometers, the average width is 25-30 kilometers. Due to its inaccessibility, the internal areas of the sand massif are a natural reserve reserve, where wild two-humped camels are still found, whose population has been rapidly declining recently. The huge sand dunes have pointed conical tops, the slopes of the sand embankments resemble a vast sand sea, the “waves” of which under the influence of wind constantly change their direction and shape. At the northwestern tip of the Mongol Els, in the bend of the Zavkhan River, there are small lakes Ereen-Nuur and Duruu-Nuur, the banks of which are covered with dense thickets of tamarisk. You can get to Mongol Els only on an SUV, most sections of the sand massif are impassable for vehicles, but tourists travel to Mongol Els to see the boundless golden sands against the turquoise sky, incredibly beautiful sunsets and feel the peace and grandeur of these places.
