Pagoda of Mach Design
Myanmar, Yangon

Makha Vizeya Pagoda is located in Myanmar, in the city of Yangon. It was built in 1980 at the initiative of General Ne Win - the head of state in 1962-1988. A pagoda was built in memory of the first convocation of all the Buddhist communities of Myanmar and their unification under the leadership of the State Committee of the Sangha Maha Nayak (the government regulatory body of Buddhist monks). The Mach Vizeya Pagoda is located on top of a small hill across the road from the Shwedagon Pagoda. Funds for its construction were collected throughout the country, a decorative spire in the shape of an umbrella crowning the dome of the stupa was donated by Ne Vin himself, and therefore Makha Vizeya has another, unofficial name - General Pagoda. The main structure of the pagoda is a large stupa, which, unlike traditional Burmese stupas, is hollow inside. In its center is a rotunda - a circular premises in plan, crowned with a dome. Here is a Buddhist relic - a statue of Buddha, donated to the temple by the king and queen of Nepal. The domed ceiling is painted in light blue, sacred animals are depicted in the symbolic firmament instead of celestial bodies. The interior of the pagoda is decorated with frescoes depicting scenes from the biography of Buddha, on the walls are painted mighty trees and Buddhist temples. The entrance to the pagoda is guarded by two statues of mythological lions, near the southern gate there is a small temple with a multi-tiered roof, decorated with carved cornices. Near the pagoda is a beautiful pond in which fish and turtles live.
