Honolulu Fort DeRussi is an Army Recreation Center located on the famous Waikiki Beach on Oahu in Hawaii. Fort DeRussi in Honolulu is one of the five forts of DeRussi in the United States. The other two are in Louisiana, one in Kentucky and another one in Washington DC. All forts were built during the American Civil War. This one was named for General Rene Edward De Russy (Rene Edward De Russy 1789-1865). Fort DeRussi in Honolulu, although owned by the American army, is not fenced and open to public transport and people. Fort DeRussi occupies a fairly vast parkland with centuries-old trees and green spaces, which includes the US Army Museum of Hawaiʻi (formerly Battery Randolph), Hale Koa Hotel, Armed Forces Recreation Center Army Recreation Center, Fort DeRussy Chapel Chapel, Asia -Pacific Center for Security Studies Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies. Fort De Russi was one of the fortified areas of Oahu where a 14-inch Shore Battery Randolph gun was installed to provide coastal defense. Most of these guns were dismantled in the early 1950s. Then this place was used as a place of rest and recreation for military personnel during the Vietnam War.
