The Cape Town Ostrich Ranch is located on the southwestern coast of South Africa, a 20-minute drive from Cape Town, on the slopes of the picturesque Durbanville Hills. Since the middle of the 17th century, ostrich farms began to be massively created in the Western Cape and ostrich farming developed - the export of eggs, meat and ostrich feathers became very profitable (Cape Town supplied the royal and imperial courts of Indonesia, India and Japan with delicious meat, eggs and ostrich feathers). By the beginning of the 20th century, the export of ostrich feathers was in fourth place after the export of gold, diamonds and wool. Soon ostrich farms became an integral part of the tourism industry in South Africa. One of the oldest ostrich farms in the country is the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch, where visitors are offered a fascinating 45-minute farm tour accompanied by a professional guide (tours are conducted in English, German and French). Visitors will see African ostriches, emu, nanda, will be able to look into the incubator and ostrich "kindergarten". During the tour, guests will learn many amazing facts about the world's largest birds, take part in feeding ostriches, ride them and stand on ostrich eggs, making sure their shells are very strong. The tour program includes a visit to a workshop for the production of leather goods and ostrich feathers, here you can watch the process of painting and decoupage ostrich eggs. The ranch gift shop has a huge selection of belts, shoes, bags, ostrich leather wallets, ostrich feather boas and painted ostrich eggs. There are two restaurants on the farm, of course, with an "ostrich" menu, for children there is a playground with swings, horizontal bars and a large sandbox. While children play, adults can enjoy a glass of wine on the outdoor terrace overlooking Table Mountain.
