Bantay Kdei Temple
Cambodia, Siem Reap Province

Built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries during the reign of Jayavarman VII, Bantay Kdey is known as a Buddhist temple in the Bayon style. Over the centuries, Bantay Kdey has been home to monks from time to time. However, no inscriptions were found in the temple that could clarify who or what it was dedicated to.
The temple is surrounded by two successive walls. This is followed by two concentric galleries, from which powerful towers rise. In the east they are preceded by the so-called Dance Hall (an enclosed space with four courtyards). As in other Angkor temples, the carvings here deserve special attention.
