The Novopolotsk Museum was opened in 1968 on a voluntary basis as a city museum of labor glory. In October 1973, received the status of local history, and since June 1998 it became a museum of history and culture of the city of Novopolotsk. In 2008, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Novopolotsk, an exposition on the history of the city was created in the museum, including 4 thematic halls that tell about the emergence and development of Novopolotsk from the day it was founded to become a modern developed economic center. The exhibition halls are devoted to a variety of topics: the history of the city, industrial enterprises, sports achievements, urban socio-cultural and public organizations. The exposition of the museum represents a unique phenomenon - the birth and development of the petrochemical industry in Belarus. The priority area of the cultural and educational activity of the museum is civic-patriotic education based on the characteristics of its region. The museum provides guided tours of the exposition “The City of My Youth”, museum lounges with famous and interesting people; interactive games on patriotic and environmental topics, museum and pedagogical classes under the program "My city: to know and love." The branch of the museum is the exhibition hall, which hosts exhibitions of contemporary art and thematic exhibitions from the museum. The museum is located in the same building with a display area of 569.8 m2 and 192.5 m2 of the exhibition hall. The total number of museum items housed in 1 permanent and 1 temporary mobile expositions is 17,730 units, of which 12,266 are the main fund, 4,564 are scientific and auxiliary items. In 2003, in the regional competition of professional excellence, the museum received a Diploma and a second prize in the nomination "The best museum of the region" following the results of 2003. In 2008, in the regional competition of professional excellence, the museum received the Prize "For high creative achievements in the field of culture and art" in the nomination "Best Museum" according to the results of 2008.
