Polotsk Museum of Military Glory

The Museum of Military Glory as a department of the Polotsk Museum of Local Lore was established in 1971. In 1985, the museum was reconstructed and re-exposed. On May 7, 1985, the museum was reopened to visitors. Since 2001, the museum has been transformed into a branch of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum of the reserve.
The museum exposition includes 1139 museum items. The exposition area is 304 m2. The exhibition complexes cover in detail the history of the creation and combat activities of the Polotsk fortified area, the defense of Polotsk (June 27 - July 16, 1941), the life of the city during the occupation (July 1941 - July 1944), the activities of underground organizations and the partisan movement on Polotsk land, participation polochen in the most significant battles of World War II, the liberation of Polotsk (Polotsk offensive operation June 28 - July 4, 1944). A significant place in the exposition is occupied by materials telling about the inhabitants of Poloka - Heroes of the Soviet Union. Among the exhibits of the museum are documents, photographs, personal belongings of the participants of the defense and liberation of Polotsk, underground fighters and partisans of the Polotsk-Lepel partisan zone, items of military equipment of the pillboxes of the Polotsk fortified area, military weapons of Soviet and foreign production.
Museum staff conducts a large search and research work. The museum initiated the creation of a memorial complex “Field of Military Glory” in the vicinity of Polotsk.
