On Xawery Dunikowski Boulevard in Wrocław, near the banks of the Oder River, sits one of the city’s most industrious dwarfs — Krasnal Koparkuś. This charming bronze figure is seated inside a miniature excavator, hands confidently on the controls, as if hard at work. The sculpture pays tribute to construction workers and the labor that shapes the modern face of the city.
Installed in 2013, Koparkuś quickly became a favorite among locals and visitors alike. His presence reflects the character of Wrocław — a city in constant motion, always building and renewing itself. Children are especially fond of the dwarf and his little digger, while adults appreciate the humor and deeper message behind the figure: a celebration of effort, development, and pride in one's surroundings.
Koparkuś is part of Wrocław’s famous dwarf trail — a collection of over 300 bronze figures scattered across the city. What began in the early 2000s as a reference to the anti-communist “Orange Alternative” movement has grown into a beloved urban symbol. Each dwarf has its own personality and story, making the search for them a favorite activity for tourists. Koparkuś, with his excavator, stands for creation, perseverance, and the unstoppable energy of Wrocław.
