Snezhkova Bay
Russia, Shikotan

Snezhkova Bay is located on the southeastern coast of Shikotan Island and is considered one of the most picturesque spots on the island. Its shores consist of high, rugged cliffs covered with stone-birch forests, juniper thickets, and rolling meadows. From the bay’s elevated areas, visitors can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and nearby islets.

The origin of the bay’s name remains uncertain, but the area attracts travelers with its untouched nature and remote atmosphere. The journey to the bay starts from the village of Krabozavodskoye. The first section of the route can be traveled by vehicle, after which the path continues on foot. The trek across the pass takes about an hour, followed by another descent to the sea.

Along the way, hikers encounter diverse landscapes, fresh ocean air, and the tranquil sounds of nature. This remote bay remains largely untouched, preserving its wild charm and offering a peaceful retreat for those seeking solitude and the raw beauty of the Kuril Islands.
