Hammam Meskutin is a small resort town located 15 kilometers from the city of Helm. First of all, it is known for its hot thermal springs, the water temperature in which ranges from 70 to 96 degrees Celsius, yielding in its "hotness" only to the thermal springs of Iceland. The hot springs of Hammam Meskutin created amazing mineral formations - cascades of "stone" waterfalls, iridescent with a variety of colors - from snow-white to dark red. The fact is, the water of these sources contains iron and calcium carbonates, their deposits formed these amazingly beautiful waterfalls "frozen in stone". There are 10 different hot springs in the Hammam Meskutin, all of them have healing properties, their water cures rheumatism, arthritis and, even, diabetes. The hot springs were known from the time of the ancient Romans, at that time the settlement was called Aquae Thiblitanae, and to this day the bath built by the Romans near the spring has been preserved and used. The Arabic name of the city of Hammam Meskutin (literally - Throwing Dirt) came from an ancient legend that states that a long time ago a rich and powerful tribe lived in this region of Algeria, in one of whose families a boy and a girl were born. The young man, having become a mighty warrior and an unsurpassed rider, wished to take his wife the most beautiful girl of the tribe. This beauty turned out to be his own sister. In vain did the elders persuade the warrior to abandon this incestuous union - the best warrior of the tribe was inexorable. In the midst of the wedding, the gods punished the bride and groom, their relatives and guests, turning them into stone pillars. Since then, in Hammam Meskutin, as a warning to posterity, the stone bride and groom stood frozen at the moment of marriage, and around them, in groups, are their parents, guests and a judge trying to escape from God's punishment.
