The Salzburg Cathedral, known throughout the world with its rich baroque interior, skillfully executed frescoes and an organ with 4000 pipes, is one of the "most advanced" buildings of the Renaissance, located in German-speaking countries. Today’s cathedral building was consecrated during a magnificent ceremony in 1628, although according to the annals, the cathedral has been standing on this site since the 8th century A.D. Called by some critics one of the most perfect buildings of the Renaissance, the cathedral has a marble facade and two identical symmetrical towers. The huge bronze gates with the image of Faith, Hope and Love were created in 1959. The interior is decorated in a rich Baroque style and decorated with skillfully executed frescoes, the most famous of which, including over the altar, were made by Mascagni from Florence.
