Saulkrasti is located 50 km from Riga, on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Riga. Part of the territory of the Saulkrasti region is occupied by the Piejūra nature park; the coastal part stretches for 17 km and is interesting for its diversity - from the “singing” sand in Lilaste to the rocky seashore of Zvejniekciems. You can also see the most charming sunsets in Saulkrasti.


History of the city


The sea coast with its steep banks and winding streams is one of the most beautiful of its kind in Vidzeme and has been a popular holiday destination for a very long time.


At the beginning of the 19th century. the first dachas were built, a new bathing place called Neibad (Neibade) was created, and in the mid-19th century. the resort has grown significantly.


What to see in Saulkrasti


  • Saulkrasti beach is a 17 km long pearl of nature.
  • Explore its diversity from the singing sand of Lilaste to the rocky seashore of Zvejniekciems.
  • White Dune - an 18 m high dune - a great place to view the Gulf of Riga. If you want to enjoy an energetic walk and breathe in the sea air, take the 4 km long forest trail that runs along the seashore from the White Dune to the Sun Bridge.
  • Saulkrasti Bicycle Museum - displays the only one in Latvia and the largest in the Baltics collection of old bicycles. It is formed from the technically most interesting historical examples of the development of bicycles that were found in Latvia.
  • Seaside Park - continuing the old traditions of the resort, a bathing place called “Center” has been created in Saulkrasti, which also has a Blue Flag. The seaside park invites everyone to enjoy the sunsets from comfortable sun loungers, as well as take advantage of the playgrounds, outdoor sports fields, gymnastics and volleyball courts.


Opportunities recreation


On sunny and warm summer days, when there is no wind, you can rent SUP boards at the Center swimming area, as well as ride jet skis.


In on windy days, surfers and kitesurfers gather on the beach next to the Koklīte cafe.


Adrenaline lovers are invited to the Bušas paintball park, and horse riding enthusiasts are invited to Saules zirgi, where you can enjoy horseback riding and romantic sunsets on the beach .


Cycling enthusiasts can rent bicycles and try routes of varying difficulty not only in Saulkrasti, but throughout the entire Vidzeme coast.
