Zvartes Rock
Latvia, Drabeshu Municipality

Zvartes Rock is one of the most popular and picturesque sandstone outcrops in Latvia. It is located on the left bank of the Amata River in the Gauja National Park.

The rock got its name in honor of the nearby Zvartes farm, which was demolished after World War II. Nowadays a visitor center has been built there.

Zvartes Rock and its surroundings offer excellent opportunities for recreation with the whole family, a group of classmates or friends. For the convenience of visitors, there are several picnic areas.

Also nearby you can explore Ragana Plavina (Witch's Meadow) and the Miglas Rock.

From there you can take a short walk along the river Amata to Veclauču Bridge and back.

When boating enthusiasts flock to Amata during the spring floods, Zvārtes Rock becomes an excellent vantage point to observe their activities.

Amata Trail

From the Zvartes Rock you can take short or long hikes along the trail along the Amata River from Melturi to the place where the Amata flows into the Gauja River. The Amata Valley is rich in dolomite and sandstone outcrops, beautiful scenery and a variety of flora and fauna. With the exception of the Zvartes Rock, other geological formations can only be seen by following the Amata trail from Melturi to the Veclauku Bridge or by taking a boat ride on the river.
