Madona Local History and Art Museum was founded in 1944. The museum collects, stores and exhibits materials about the history, culture and art of the city of Madona. In 1984, the former cobblestone barn of the Exchange estate was restored and a spacious extension was built to house art exhibition spaces (Skolas Street 10). In addition to exhibitions, the museum features a permanent exhibition on the archeology of the area.


Archaeological finds from the Middle and Late Stone Age in Latvia come from the area of ​​Lake Lubans in the east of the Madona region. The museum regularly hosts various thematic and art exhibitions; During the summer, ethnographic objects from the region are exhibited. Visitors have the opportunity to use the museum's academic library. The museum offers tours of the city and region. On sale are paintings by local artists, ceramics and arts and crafts, as well as books, brochures and postcards.
