Canaima National Park is located in the southeastern part of Venezuela and belongs to the state of Bolivar. The territory size is about 30,000 square kilometers. Canaima Park is the second largest park in Venezuela after Parima-Tapirapeco Park. The park's attractions are table mountains - tepuis, canyons, waterfalls and savannas. The word "tepui" translated from the language of the Pemon Indians means "house of the gods." At the top of such mountains there must be a plateau. Famous tepuis of Canaima Park are Mount Roraima and Mount Auyantepui. The plateau of each mountain has its own unique flora, and according to scientists, some plant species in the world grow only here. The size of the plateau on Mount Roraima is 34 square kilometers. A trip to the region of Mount Roraima inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write his novel The Lost World. The tallest and most famous waterfall in the world, Angel Falls, descends from Mount Auyantepui. The height of the continuous fall of water is 807 meters. From such a great height, streams of water do not have time to reach the ground, spraying and turning into fog in the air. Another waterfall, Sapo, is popular among tourists. The hiking trail passes directly under its falling streams. There are about 9 thousand plant species in Canaima National Park. Among the 150 species of mammals live: jaguars, pumas, ocelots, tapirs, peccaries, agoutis, anteaters, monkeys, giant otters and others. Eagles, falcons, parrots, toucans, hummingbirds are among the more than 500 species of birds living here. There are 72 species of reptiles and about 50 species of amphibians. Kanaima Park, which is remote from civilization, can be reached by plane, on foot or by water rafting. Accompanying a guide is mandatory. The park was opened in 1962, and in 1994 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
