Lielstraupe Castle is one of the rare medieval castles in Latvia that has survived to this day.
The revival of Lielstraupe Castle over the centuries was ensured by the ancient Baltic-German von Rosen family, which ruled the castle with short interruptions until 1939. For the last 50 years, this building has housed the Straupe Narcological Hospital, but since the beginning of 2018, the castle has been managed by the Pargau region municipality, which has found a way to open the castle for tourists.
Lielstraupe Castle is the only castle in Latvia that is still in construction. the volume of which includes the church. A journey through both buildings is a fascinating tale of periods from ancient times to the present day.
