The famous French nobleman Mikhail D'Alfons in 1885-1889 was the main gardener-decorator of Batumi and the first manager of the laying and landscaping of Batumi Boulevard.
The foundation of Batumi Boulevard and its further development are associated with his name.
In a short time, M. D'Aalfons turned the once impassable coastal zone into a real miracle, therefore his contemporaries working as gardeners in Batumi christened Mikhail D'Alfons “The Good Genius of the Batumi Coast”.
D'Alfons was the first to lay the foundation of gardening in the Batumi district. It was he who saw the unique opportunities of the Adzharian coast, first appreciated the favorable conditions created by nature for human life and activities, and realized what the future holds for this rich land.
The author of the monument was David Bolkvadze, who won the competition organized by the administration. 70 days it took him to create a sculpture. The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister, the Ambassador of France, the descendants of a talented gardener and other representatives of the cultural sphere. The opening was timed to the 130th anniversary of the Boulevard.
