Cotswold
Great Britain, Cotswold (district)

Cotswold is one of the largest areas of exceptional natural beauty in England and a popular destination for both British and world tourism. Cotswold is located on a hilly area in western England in the counties of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. This is one of the officially recognized territories of "outstanding natural beauty" in the UK. The Cotswolds extend from southwest to northeast along the left bank of the Severn River for approximately 100 km. Traditional Cotswold cottages can be identified by slate roofs of gray limestone with multi-colored lichen spots. Typical Kottsvoldskaya street is a labyrinth of hedges, calcareous building facades and “dry stone” fences, most of which were built in the 18th and 19th centuries without cement. In addition to limestone mining, the Cotswolds was famous for sheep farming. Each village of Coswold has its own peculiarity and amazing charm. Borton-he-Water or Cotswolds Venice is a village indented by canals over which stone bridges bend. For 70 years, the village is famous for football matches that are played right in the channels. Among the attractions of Borton are a miniature model of the village and the Automobile Museum, as well as an aviary with exotic birds. Another pearl of the Cotswolds is Broadway Village in Worcestershire. The houses along the main street can be traced to the evolution of architectural styles, and in the vicinity there are old manors and fragrant lavender fields. It’s better to come to Cotswold for a few days in order to slowly familiarize yourself with the charming, kind, old England and enjoy the richness of the simplicity of the English countryside, just two hours from London.
