Memorial complex tract Guy
Belarus, Baranovichi

On the north-eastern outskirts of Baranavichy in the tract "Guy" is a memorial to Czechoslovak citizens who died at the hands of the Nazis. The opening of the memorial took place on June 24, 1972. (The authors of the monument are architects A. I. Makarov, A. G. Marenich, N. N. Milovidov, sculptor M. S. Altshuler). Three thousand Czechoslovak citizens, prisoners of the Terezienstadt ghetto, were shot at this place in June 1942. This place is located in close proximity to the Moscow-Brest railway line. It was on the railway track that the prisoners were taken to be shot. Locals call this part of the road - "a black spot." On this stretch of road, people, as if at point blank range, do not want to see speeding trains and die on the railway track. It seems that the souls of the innocently killed do not find peace and take revenge on living people to this day. The memorial complex symbolic "Threshold of life and death" opens. The texture of the concrete gives the impression of traces left by those people who crossed the threshold of being. The dominant feature of the memorial is the arch, which is two pillars 12 meters high, each with its shape resembling the supports of the concentration camp fences. Even a slight breeze blows a bell suspended from its supports, and then a dull alarming moan is carried around. At the bottom of the arch are bas-reliefs depicting many hands reaching for the bell, conveying protest, pain and despair, and as if appealing to the memory of the living. This monument has repeatedly been the victim of vandals. Large pieces of copper were repeatedly cut from the bas-relief. Therefore, it was decided to replace the copper bas-relief with steel. From the main monument along the moats - graves deep into the forest, two paths lead to the symbolic "scaffold" - a concrete slab with a dedication inscription: "To the blessed memory of the Czechoslovak brothers. Here in June 1942 the Nazi invaders brutally shot three thousand Czechoslovak citizens ”(in Russian and Czech). The complex is completed by the symbolic “Wall of execution” from rubble stones corresponding to the number of dead. The memorial "Gai tract." One of the places of mourning in the city of Baranovichi.
