Vitebsk International Airport (East)
Belarus, Vitebsk

The development of aviation in Vitebsk began in 1932, when the first airfield with an artificial runway was built here. Initially, the airport “Vitebsk” was located in another place and was called Vitebsk (SOUTH), it was built as an airfield of the air forces of the Soviet army. The first landing of the aircraft in Vitebsk was in May 1914, when the world's first flight of the aircraft on the route Kiev-Petersburg took place in one daylight under the command of Pyotr Nikolayevich Nesterov. Before World War II, there were no scheduled flights to Vitebsk, although the "Vitebsk Airport" was opened on 11/07/1934. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the airfield turned from a military into a civilian airport and took a significant place in the development of civil aviation in Belarus. Due to the rapid development of Vitebsk and the growth of housing construction, it was decided to move the airport out of the city. Since 1978, the current airport began operating, located 10 kilometers from the city. At present, Vitebsk Airport is a branch of the State Enterprise Belaeronavigation. Vitebsk Airport provides the following services:
• Air traffic services near the airport of Vitebsk
• Intra-republican scheduled air transportation.
• Charter domestic and international passenger and cargo air transportation.
• Storage and transportation of fuel and lubricants.
• Storage under customs control (TSW warehouse).
• Providing vehicles and special equipment.
• Providing territory for entertainment and sports events.

The airport has a capacity of up to 150 passengers per hour, a VIP lounge and all the necessary structures for passengers, baggage and cargo. Today, a large-scale modernization is underway at Vitebsk Airport, which will significantly increase passenger flow and improve the quality and quantity of services provided.
