Railway station Orsha
Belarus, Orsha

The railway station of Orsha station (I class), one of the largest in the republic, is a kind of “eastern gate” to Belarus, a visiting card of the Belarusian Railway. For the first time, the railway station at Orsha station was built in 1871 with the commissioning of the Moscow-Brest railway line. The station building was wooden. In 1912, a new station building was built. The concrete two-story rectangular building on the west and east sides had two 4-sided columns with a toothed parapet. In the mid 30-ies of XX century, passenger traffic through Orsha increased significantly, there was a need to expand the station. A project for the completion of the station was developed, and in the three pre-war years, some work was done on the internal layout and decoration, as well as the external arrangement. During the Great Patriotic War, the station building was partially destroyed. In 1944, the restoration of the station building began in accordance with the initial design. At the end of 1947, the station was completely restored. According to the plan of the architect N. I. Tumanskaya, significant changes were made to its architectural and artistic design, a monument to K. S. Zaslonov was designed by A. I. Azgur. In 1953, the station building was completed, the second floor was built on the western and eastern sides. In the western part of the Orsha station in 1973, a glazed room was built, which housed the speaker. In 1980, the station was decorated with new interiors; a partial redevelopment of the premises was carried out. So the station remained until 2002. In addition to cosmetic repairs, no work was carried out. In 2002-2004, the reconstruction of the station was carried out, which mainly related to the internal redevelopment, improvement of the territory around the station. While maintaining the overall architectural and historical appearance of the building, the interiors of the interior are completely reconstructed, made in a modern style, using European technologies and materials, a complete modernization of the equipment of the station complex was carried out, which allowed to significantly improve the conditions of service and stay of both passengers and employees of the station complex. The monumental rectangular building of the station is located along the railway tracks, occupies an island position. The building consists of three volumes: central and two side. The facades of the central building on the north and south sides are highlighted by an entrance portal with a wide arched opening trimmed with columns and stucco reliefs. The interior used marble, stucco details and shades. By a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated May 14, 2007, the building of the Orsha railway station is endowed with the status of historical and cultural value. In 1984, a passenger locomotive of the P-36 series was installed on the forecourt to commemorate the labor exploits of the Orsha railway workers and in connection with the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders.
