Sandunovskie Baths, more often referred to as Sanduny, is one of the most famous and oldest bath complexes in Moscow. Their story begins at the end of the 18th century, when the actor Sila Nikolaevich Sandunov, together with his wife Elizaveta née Uranova, maid of honor of Catherine II, decided to invest in the creation of luxurious and at the same time affordable baths. Located in the very heart of the capital, on Neglinnaya Street, Sanduny quickly gained a reputation as a place where representatives of different classes and professions meet to relax, improve their health and simply enjoy communication.
The architectural appearance of the Sandunov Baths has changed several times : from modest wooden buildings to a majestic building in the eclectic style, where you could see features of Gothic, Renaissance and Russian architecture. The interiors were luxurious and thoughtful in every detail - marble floors, stained glass windows, carved panels and exquisite lamps made staying in the baths an unforgettable experience. Extensive steam rooms and swimming pools were equipped with the latest technology of the time, and special attention was paid to hygiene, comfort and safety of visitors.
Over time, Sanduny became not just a place for water treatments, but also a kind of cultural center . Here political and cultural news were discussed, business meetings took place, deals were concluded and creative projects were born. Numerous legends and stories about significant events that happened in the Sandunovskie baths give a special charm and romance to this place, firmly securing its status as a landmark of the capital.
Today the Sandunovskie baths have retained their historical authenticity, remaining the center attraction for Muscovites and city guests. Despite the development of new technologies, the traditional Russian steam room and classic bath rituals continue to be popular, allowing visitors to feel the atmosphere of old Moscow and touch the centuries-old custom of cleansing the soul and body.
