Fort Recovery is part of the fortified defenses in the western part of Tortola Island in the British Virgin Islands. Once it was a whole system of fortifications, which formed an impregnable western border on the coast. Today, only the base of one of the towers is left of it. It is believed that the creation of Fort Recovery was carried out by the Dutch privateer Jost Van Dyke, who arrived on the island in 1620. At this time, a truce was declared between the Dutch and Spaniards in Puerto Rico, which did not prevent the construction of the fort. Until the mid-19th century, it was used as shelter. When the need for defense disappeared, the construction began to quickly decline.
