Salzburg Puppet Museum
Austria, Salzburg

The Hohensalzburg Fortress in Salzburg keeps a unique attraction in its basements - the Puppet Museum. Charming puppets will allow you and your family to plunge into the fantastic world of dolls. The Museum "Puppet World" has many interesting exhibits. Already at the entrance you are greeted by a 3D miniature of Archbishop Wolf Dietrich. There are puppets dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his works. You can see in miniature scenes from his world-famous works, such as: “The Magic Flute”, “Sounds of Music”. Of particular interest is the exposition, introducing the fortress and farmers in the context of the peasant uprising of 1525. In the museum you will have a unique opportunity to try yourself as a puppeteer. Having tried once to awaken small figures to life, you will understand how difficult this profession is. After all, puppets should not only move, turn, but even perform dances. The museum is part of the world-famous Puppet Theater, founded by Professor Anton Aycher in 1913. It is in the museum that most of the small artists who are not involved in theatrical productions are kept. The founder of the theater was a sculptor. He developed the design of puppets capable of faithfully transmitting human movements. The first productions of the theater were puppet versions of Mozart's operas. Over time, the repertoire grew, and the theater began to give tours in many countries of Europe. Even during the war, the theater traveled to occupied countries. Real operas, performances and even ballets with puppets are staged here: The Nutcracker, The Abduction from Seral, The Bat, The Marriage of Figaro and other famous works. Be sure to visit the theater after visiting the museum. It will be interesting not only to you, but also your children to look at the submissions. The museum has a unique puppet shop where you can purchase puppets from famous productions, as well as a wide range of souvenirs, DVDs, videos, maps, exclusive postcards from the world famous Salzburg Puppet Theater. In 2014, the museum was modernized. The collection of puppets has been significantly updated and replenished in order not to stop delighting its visitors.
