Alberobello
Italy, Alberobello

Alberobello is a commune in the province of Bari, the Italian region of Puglia, located about 60 km southeast of Bari and has about 11 thousand inhabitants.
The picturesque Italian town of Alberobello is famous for its unique “trulli” buildings, which have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1996.
Original, similar to fabulous houses, trulli are located in two areas of the city: Ayia Pikkula and Monti. The name of these fabulous houses comes from the word "Trullo", which is translated from Latin as a dome, that is, houses with a dome. Trullo is a one-room construction with a conical roof topped with a stone spire and decorated with drawings, Christian or pagan symbols. The main feature of such buildings is that they were built without the use of cement or any other fastening solutions.
The story of the Thrulls begins in the 16th century, when the feudal lords of the Aquaviva dynasty ruled the city of Alberobello. They did not want to pay the king a settlement tax, so they ordered the peasants to build houses that could be quickly and easily destroyed if tax collectors came to the settlement.
In total, there are about one and a half thousand unusual buildings in the ancient city. In many of them people still live, and some are used as hotels, restaurants, bars and souvenir shops.
There are other important sights in Alberobello - this is a chapel built using the same technology as trulli houses, and the only two-story house in the city dating back to the 18th century. Currently, this house has a museum dedicated to the famous trulli buildings.
In the season from early May to late October, Alberobello is filled with travelers from all over the world. At this time, it is always noisy and crowded: thousands of tourists crowd in the narrow streets, numerous guides tell the story of Alberobello and trulli houses in different languages. The picture is complemented by local merchants offering tourists a variety of souvenirs and organic products such as wine, cheese, grappa and olive oil. In summer, the city hosts various music festivals, poetry evenings and concerts by the most famous Italian artists.
