Auanacancha is a zoological center located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, on the way between Pisac and Cuzco. It was created mainly for the preservation and breeding of various breeds of lamas - huanaco, alpacas and vicunias. In addition, Auanacancha is also a cultural center, as it contributes to the development of traditional crafts related to the manufacture of fabrics from the wool of these animals.
Women in national clothes demonstrate the whole process of processing wool from beginning to end: raising animals, cutting, combing, obtaining pigments and dyeing fibers. Tourists will also see yarn spinning and weaving fabrics on traditional spinning machines.
Those interested can get acquainted with the mineral and vegetable dyes that Quechua Indians have used since ancient times to dye yarn. A small gift shop sells high-quality handicrafts: poncho, sweaters, carpets, and many other products.
A visit to the nursery is of particular interest to children: here you can feed alpaca llamas, stroke these amazing animals and even play with them.
