Yeghishe Charents is a great Armenian poet, a fiery singer of reborn Armenia. The place of Charents in the constellation of poets of the 20th century was precisely determined by Louis Aragon: “The bright names of poets are the decoration of our century. In England, this is Kipling, in France - Apollinaire and Eluard, in Germany - Rilke, in Spain - Garcia Lorca, in Russia - Mayakovsky and Yesenin, in Armenia - Charents and Isaakyan ... "The House Museum of E. Charents is a scientific the center for the study of the poet’s biography, since the museum stores and displays relics that have reached us — the poet’s personal belongings: manuscripts, documents, books, photographs and other material related to Charents by a person, citizen, poet, translator, and publisher. The ingenious poet of the twentieth century lived in the house where the museum is now located, from 1935 to 1937. By the decision of the Council of Ministers of Soviet Armenia of February 8, 1964, the poet’s house-museum was founded in this house. In January 1975, the museum received its first visitors. In 1987, in connection with the anniversary - the 90th anniversary of the poet, the building was partially reconstructed, and the museum was expanded. Today the museum area is 626.3 m2. The main exposition occupies three floors of the building, the memorial part is restored. The central place in the museum is occupied by the apartment where the poet lived. Here everything is preserved as it was during the life of the Charents. A special place in the apartment is allocated for the library. According to the daughter of Charents - Arpenik, at the end of the 30s there were about 6,000 books in the personal library. Unfortunately, after the arrest of the poet, most of the books were destroyed. Only 1,444 copies have survived to our time. In addition to its main purpose, the museum also organizes exhibitions, literary and musical evenings, lectures, thematic lessons, concerts, meetings, presentations, poetry days, festivals and more. The Charents House-Museum is one of the most treasured places in the homeland for the entire Armenian people.
