Zhytomyr Regional Literary Museum is located in a beautiful two-story building dating back to 1907, made in the Art Nouveau style, with skillful stucco molding on the facade. Located st. Kievskaya, in the center of the city of Zhitomir, and has an extensive fund, located in several exhibition halls.
In the hall on the ground floor there is an exposition dedicated to Ivan Shevchenko, a theatrical artist, Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, who from 1952 to 1994 worked at the Zhytomyr Drama Theater. Here is a unique collection of theatrical sketches and archival materials.
On the upper floors there are collections dedicated to the honored poet and singer of Ukraine Vadim Krishchenko, laureate of many awards, a native of the city of Zhitomir. There is also an exposition dedicated to the activities and works of the famous French writer Honore de Balzac.
The museum contains materials introducing the life and work of such famous Ukrainian writers as: I. Kotlyarovsky, Lesya Ukrainka, M. Kotsyubinsky, O. Oles, O. Olzhych, and many others.
The pearl of the fund is the collection of memorial things of Boris Ten. For more than 10 years after the death of this outstanding poet and translator, thanks to whom Ukrainians were able to read such epic works as Iliad and Odyssey in their native language, his personal belongings were kept in a locked office. In the museum you can see miraculously preserved manuscripts, letters, books and memorial things of the writer.
Two halls on the second floor of the museum building are dedicated to temporary exhibitions and displays.
