Toba Lake is the largest lake in Southeast Asia. Its area is 1103 square kilometers, and the depth is more than 450 meters. In the center of the lake is the island of Samosir.
Lake Toba is the site of a colossal volcanic eruption that occurred about 70,000 years ago. It is believed that this eruption, rated at 8 points on a scale of volcanic eruptions, has become the most powerful on Earth in the past 25 million years and has caused global climate change.
The mild climate, the unique nature, the cultural and historical heritage of the Batak attract lovers of ethnic and ecotourism to Lake Toba. On the island of Samosir, you can visit the tomb of the Batak king Sidabutar and take part in the Batak puppet festival.
